Vitamin C is heralded as one of the best ingredients on the market for skin care — critical to maintaining a smooth, even, and glowing complexion. Vitamin C is a water-soluble nutrient that plays an important role in keeping your body and skin healthy. Topically applied Vitamin C is dermatologist-favorite ingredient that may help slow early skin aging, prevent sun damage, and improve the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots.

A formula that contains a high percentage of vitamin C but isn’t properly formulated to stay stable and effective can be far less impressive than a vitamin C formula with a smaller concentration.

Absorbability matters. If a derivative is known to absorb better, a smaller concentration can deliver more visible results than a formula that boasts a larger percentage but delivers less penetration into the skin.

Quality over Quantity: too much vitamin C can also be irritating depending on the derivative, so higher doesn’t always mean better skin results. Although vitamin C is widely regarded as a well-tolerated ingredient for most skin types, it can irritate delicate skin. Even hardened skin types can experience sensitization upon first application of high percentages.

Formulation is everything when it comes to vitamin C products. The challenge is developing a stable formulation with the most efficient trans-epidermal delivery method to maximize the concentration of active vitamin C in the skin. Ascorbic acid or L-ascorbic acid is the pure form of vitamin C. It’s an antioxidant powerhouse that delivers amazing benefits to the skin. This ingredient is potent but it’s not stable: degrades in the presence of oxygen and light, turns brown and becomes ineffective (after a few weeks- months). Pure ascorbic acid can also irritate the skin especially at high percentage.

Absorption and bioconversion of a Vitamin C ingredient is critical. Some forms of Vitamin C may not be converted by the body to L-ascorbic acid as readily. If the derivative cannot convert to L-ascorbic acid in the body, it will not be beneficial.

Smoothing and brightening
Excellent vitamin c serum. I’ve been using skin ceuticals vitamin c for years and this is by far better. I like the texture and how easily it absorbs.
